If the grass on your lawn does a disappearing act every time the season gets colder, you might be used to seeing a bald spot on your garden that makes it less than appealing. Maintaining real grass takes a lot of time, effort, and perhaps most annoyingly: patience, so why not consider artificial grass?
The decision to switch to artificial grass can be a big decision, but making the choice can make a lot of sense. If you're wondering what the benefits are of artificial grass then you've come to the right place, because the experts at FieldMasters have 5 reasons you should make the switch.
Installation is quick, easy, and efficient
Perhaps the biggest perk of artificial grass is the fact that it's so easy to install; it takes significantly less time than tending to and maintaining real grass. Despite this easy installation, however, you can expect your lawn to look just about as realistic as one with real grass. You can make it into a fun DIY project with your loved ones, or you can leave it to the experts to save yourself some time.
You can very easily become informed about installing artificial grass by going through blogs from experts like us. However, having professionals do it on your behalf is also cost-effective and a lot less time-consuming, so if you'd rather leave it to us, we don't blame you.
You can install artificial grass almost anywhere
Installing real grass can be one of the biggest challenges for people who live in rental properties; it could be the fact you don't have a lot of space or the simple fact that there's a risk of damage that could be caused by having real grass installed. However, artificial grass is an easy and simple solution to these issues. Artificial grass can be used just about anywhere, from the balcony to the lawn to the rooftop, backyard, and even swimming pool decks, too!
Artificial turf is low-maintenance and long-lasting
Having a beautifully manicured lawn when you have real grass is such a commitment that it's almost a part-time job. It takes a lot of mowing, weeding, augmenting grass seeds, and regular watering. If you're too busy to do all of that lawn care, you can easily swap it out for artificial grass to save time and all of that unnecessary effort.
It's appropriate for nearly all weather conditions
Artificial grass is an excellent option if you want your lawn to look fresh and green all year round. Typically, annual grasses have a life cycle of approximately a year and that's followed by a new seeding cycle. The seeds always take some time to germinate, which can leave your yard looking less than appealing. Perennial grasses also go dormant in colder months and can take time to return to that beautiful, green that you're familiar with. But, if you choose artificial grass, there's no need to wait and you can expect to have a green-looking lawn regardless of the season.
It's safe for your kids and your pets
Kids and pets can play on artificial grass without their parents having to worry about exposing them to harmful chemicals. Real grass utilizes fertilizers to grow healthily, and these modern fertilizers contain a lot of chemicals. This can be a real health hazard to your little ones and your furry friends. Some children have grass allergies, so artificial grass makes for a safer alternative to real grass. If you have dogs, you also may have to keep them away from grass, because dogs are notorious for digging and chewing up grass. Artificial grass is a safer choice for pets because they're less likely to chew or dig at artificial grass. Also, unlike the real thing, synthetic turf isn't slippery and is soft enough to cushion your kids should they trip and fall. Bonus!
There's no need for pesticides and fertilizers
Non-toxic artificial grasses are a much safer choice that doesn't require fertilizers or pesticides, which are known to be detrimental to the environment. Pests can be challenging when you have a natural lawn. Pests are naturally drawn to healthy grass and can end up eating or nesting in your lawn. To prevent this, you pretty much have to use pesticides. As well, fertilizers need to be used regularly to ensure your grass grows strong and healthy. With synthetic turf, you don't need to worry about growth or pests destroying it. Artificial grass doesn't bald or struggle with grass-related diseases like yellowing and doesn't need water for care - you just need to clean it to maintain it. It isn't going to attract insects looking for a spot to spawn eggs or eat. This means you can have a chemical-free lawn that's safe for kids and dogs alike.
BONUS FEATURE - Saving money!

There are a variety of reasons why you might prefer artificial grass over having a natural lawn - and a big element is cost-effectiveness. Firstly, buying and installing artificial grass is much cheaper than the installation cost of real grass, which requires a lot of prep and maintenance. Once you've installed artificial grass, it doesn't require much maintenance other than being periodically cleaned. You won't be wasting money on manure, pesticides, fertilizers, or water. Synthetic grass doesn't require frequent trims, you don't need a lawn mower, and you don't have to pay a gardener to maintain it.
If you have some space that's suitable for a nice layer of grass, then some if not all of the reasons we mentioned about choosing artificial grass could be perfect for you. Not only is it a money-saving alternative, but the grass will stay good for years to come. Artificial turf can endure rough use, even if it receives a lot of traffic. Artificial turf is ideal for all seasons and can be installed practically anywhere. Addressing misconceptions
If you or someone you love is considering artificial turf but find themselves concerned about the drawbacks, we're here to also dispel some of those concerns. We're doing this by addressing just some of the common misconceptions about artificial turf.
It's expensive
The cost is almost always the primary concern when considering artificial grass because you've heard it's expensive. This is why it's important to check the prices and consider the bigger picture before coming to a decision. The truth is each project, just like the customer, is unique, including budget and goals. At FieldMasters, we ensure we have a selection that meets a wide range of budgets, and as we mentioned before, there's no expensive upkeep with artificial turf.
Artificial turf looks... FAKE?

One of the best parts of working with FieldMasters is introducing people to our artificial grass for the first time. Many times, people don't have the right experience with high-quality synthetic turf, and expect it to look phony. The truth is, turf can look almost as real as the real thing!
It's not recyclable
You may have found people who claim artificial grass is bad for the environment because it ends up in a landfill. This, to put it plainly, isn't true. The fact is many forms of artificial grass are indistinguishable from the real thing and don't age the same way regular grass does. Many of us in the industry care about sustainability and conservation very much and operate in a way that mitigates the potential for environmental impact as a part of our business model.
False grass gets too hot in the summer
Fake grass can indeed get hot in the summer because it doesn't have the water flowing through it and cooling it down like it does for natural grass. Having said that, there are plenty of ways to keep your artificial grass from getting too hot during the summer months.
To keep your fake grass cool, you can:
Use lighter colours of synthetic grass so it doesn't absorb as much heat
Use a lighter colour infill
Use a cooling infill
Install your artificial turf in shaded areas
On super hot days, you can cool off your synthetic lawn with a quick spray from the garden hose so your pets or kids can enjoy the outdoors.
Artificial lawns have bad drainage
This is a MYTH.
If you have artificial grass installed properly, it should drain more reliably than natural grass does. Artificial lawns are installed overtop of a sub-base of compacted decomposed granite, sand, and river rocks that give it a solid but porous foundation - perfect for draining. This makes for faster drainage than you'd ever experience with natural grass, which only drains as fast as the soil beneath it can. It's very important to keep in mind that different artificial turf products are designed for different volumes of drainage, so do your research.
